Key Resource Centres (KRCs) to support Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) in Uttar Pradesh
The effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-Gramin) faces several emerging issues and challenges, such as sustainability of water sources, usage of sanitation facilities, difficulties in availing microloans for constructing individual household latrines, institutional challenges including capacities of government functionaries as well as of other stakeholders under SBM-G to play their role in a changing environment, capacity of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to manage sanitation and water supply issues, etc. In order to address such emerging issues and challenges, it is necessary that the capacities of different stakeholders are enhanced to enable them to play their role and shoulder their responsibilities effectively.
The key objectives of the project include upgrading knowledge, skills and attitude of government functionaries at various levels, PRI representatives, master trainers and other stakeholders. It involved enhancing their knowledge of new technologies and innovations in the sanitation sector while encouraging the use of cost-effective and appropriate technologies for ecologically safe and sustainable sanitation. The project also promotes fostering respect for rural community’s rights, focusing on their issues and concerns and their involvement in the process of planning, implementing and monitoring sanitation targets.
