Brief: An analysis of monsoonal rainfall by GEAG shows more than average rainfall over Gorakhpur this year. The average rainfall received in June-July-August is 999.9 mm which is the also the highest in the last five years. A new pattern in the monsoonal rainfall is being observed i.e. more amount of rainfall in shorter time duration. Global warming and environmental degradation are the key causes of this erratic rainfall pattern. Low air pressure and cyclonic winds over the eastern Uttar Pradesh continuously contributes to cloud formation over the region.
