Brief: A one-day training workshop on urban organic terrace gardening was organized by Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG) at the head office of GEAG in Gorakhpur. Agriculture Scientists Dr Rajendra Hegde and Dr B.N. Vishwanath from Bengaluru facilitated and guided GEAG Team to grow their own chemical free food on the roof. A roof garden/terrace garden is a small-scale urban agriculture which can produce a tangible amount of locally grown nutritious and safe food.The interactive day-long workshop included topics like introduction to organic terrace gardening and its importance in our modern urban world, preparation of roofs for starting the process, selecting seeds and plants, soil preparation, preparing organic manure and pesticides at home, composting and several other environmental and aesthetic benefits of terrace gardening etc.
