The project aims to strengthen the socio-economic conditions of farmer communities to conserve the forest resources. Village-wise alternative livelihood options will be identified for the communities and farm-based options will be implemented. The project will also provide technical support to WWF Team in designing and implementing livelihood initiatives in TAL.
The key activities undertaken are:
- In Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, a survey was conducted in 10 villages and model farmers were selected. The farmers were encouraged to take on mushroom farming for additional income
- In Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, farmers were engaged with agriculture-related schemes. Cattle were vaccinated free of cost. A number of farmers also benefitted from the Rural Livelihood Mission wherein they took up goat rearing and chicken rearing
