This project aims to strengthen the resilience and livelihoods of small and marginal farmers living in flood and waterlogged areas of the Badi Gandak (Narayani) and Rapti river basins. Through ecosystem-based solutions and integrated farming systems, the initiative will promote climate-resilient agriculture, stabilize riverbanks through bamboo plantation, and support sustainable income generation through flood-resilient and riverbed farming practices. The project focuses on developing innovative, community-driven models to help rural communities adapt to recurring floods and climate risks.

Key Activities
  • Baseline and End-line Study to assess socio-economic and environmental impact.
  • Promotion of Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) for flood-resilient agriculture.
  • Bamboo plantation for riverbank stabilization.
  • Wetland renovation and rejuvenation.
  • Promotion of riverbed farming practices.
  • Rainwater Harvesting Structures and other climate-resilient community assets.
  • Operationalization of Farmer Field Schools (FFS).
  • Soil testing services for farmers.
  • Dissemination of weather alerts and agro-advisories.
Anticipated Outcomes
  • Enhanced climate resilience and livelihood security for flood-affected farming communities.
  • Adoption of agro-based livelihood practices by farmers in the project clusters.
  • Increase in average annual farmer income from ₹50,000 to ₹65,000 by the third year (around 30% growth).
  • Strengthened water security through rainwater harvesting structures and improved water management.
  • Improved access to climate information through weather alerts and agro-advisories.
  • Operational Farmer Field Schools supporting knowledge sharing and sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Rejuvenation of wetlands (average size approx. 1.5 acres) supporting biodiversity and water retention.

The project will develop scalable, community-led models that improve livelihoods while strengthening ecosystem resilience in flood-prone regions of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
