The Government of India has recommended administration of Vitamin A every six months through a package of child health and nutrition interventions to reduce the under 5 mortality. With severe conditions in the state and a hope to make an impact on mortality, the Micronutrient Initiative (MI) started providing technical support to the Government of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2010 on Bal Swasthya Poshan Maah (BSPM) which is a biannual drive focused on delivering Vitamin A supplementation and other key micronutrients.
GEAG developed a broad strategy to improve service delivery of micronutrients at sub-centre level by using RI/VHND platforms for Vitamin A first dose coverage and BSPM biannual round for second and consequent doses.
